About the Area

Villeneuve-sur-lot, Monpazier, Monflanquin...the countryside here in South-West France, around your self-catering holiday accommodation and other properties, is a land of sunflowers and medieval towns, of caves and rivers, of vineyards and plum orchards, of castles and quiet lost villages, of sunshine and tradition, and of miles of beautiful unspoilt scenery.

The “departement” of Lot et Garonne is part of the Aquitaine region and is named after its two principal rivers which merge within its boundaries and has plenty to offer the visitor. It is still quite a well kept secret and much of its beautiful countryside remains unspoilt. The area is littered with no less than 42 historic “Bastide” towns, in addition to many beautiful villages, most of which have regular market days.

The area is noted for its famous “Pruneaux d’Agen (prunes), which bear little resemblance to what one might find in an English pudding.

Whichever direction you travel to “Valmar” from, Vineyard after vineyard will indicate the importance of wine growing in the region. The Buzet, Marmandais and Côtes de Duras are well known, as well as the neighbouring Bordeaux varieties. There are a number of local vineyards, where the owners will be only too happy to give you a guided tour of their 'Domaine' and allow you to sample the fruits of their labour!

So if you wish to spend your time soaking up all that is typically France, then this is a perfect location in which to do this. Valmar is ideally situated to explore all that the region has to offer. Of course, if you just wish to 'get away from it all' your Holiday Accommodation is situated in a very tranquil setting, allowing you to just completely relax. The choice is yours !
