Valmar Gite is our own ‘Home from Home’ and when we began letting it to other holiday-makers in June 2007, we wanted our guests to also feel that they were staying in their own ‘Home from Home’. With this in mind we left a ‘guest book’ at the Gite and asked our guests to write their comments ‘good or bad’ in the book at the end of their stay, so that we could respond to their comments and improve the service we offer to future guests.
The following are what our guests have thought of Valmar. They are “verbatim” comments taken either straight from the guest book, or were comments made using our feedback form.
Valmar gite is a very good place to spend relaxed and comfortable holidays. The house is very well equipped, you can find everything you need, even plastic glasses so you can safely drink poolside drinks! We loved the very clean pool, where we could swim really good and the children had much fun. The view is sensational. At the end of July the sun-flowers next to the garden were so pretty! The garden is very large, we had a lot of privacy. It is a nice and calm neighbourhood. We visited a lot of sights near the gite and made nice canoe trips on the river Lot. For our technically interested family, the best sight was our visit to the airbus industry at Toulouse (just a 90 min. drive away).— 7th July - 21st July 2012 The Steinacker family - Neunkirchen-Seelscheid - Germany
But the best of all was that there were almost no mosquitos and we could be out there on the beautiful terrace in the evenings and nights to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the the balmy summer evenings, without interference from mosquito bites!
The owners Martin and Christine are very friendly and gave us lots of advice. The booking of the house has been very easy because Martin and Christine have explained everything very well. For those who wish a relaxing holiday we can highly recommend this gite!
We took our two children (girls aged 6 & 8) for one week to Valmar Gite, all of us had a great time. The atmosphere is very relaxing with panoramic scenery to stare out on, a great pool with plenty of toys, lilo's etc and the house itself has everything you could possibly need for a 'home from home'.— 28th July - 4th August 2012 Ben & Helena - Hook - Hamps - UK
Not only is the property itself good, the location is ideal, far enough away from the towns that you feel you are in the middle of nowhere, but also within easy reach of amenties like supermarkets.
Within the information pack at the house we found a lot of ideas for places to go. We chose the night market at Pujols, and a day out in Agen and Villeneuve-sur-Lot, all were great fun and gave a real feeling of the culture of the region.
Martin and Christine clearly put in a lot of effort to ensure that their guests have a good time, it was really appreciated, thank you very much!
The gite was everything that was advertised. Inside it was clean & spacious with two large bedrooms, two modern bathrooms and a reasonable kitchen. View from the terrace was superb as was the pool. Wind did get up during the week which set off the pool alarm several times but I suspect it upset the neighbours more than it did us. Location was OK. Several local villages worth visiting plus walks in the local countryside. Visits to Domme & Arcachon were both two hours each way !!— 2nd - 9th June 2012 Ian & Florence Kent - UK
The views from the house and pool across the valley are breathtaking. The house is well appointed, clean and beautifully furnished. The surrounding area is peaceful and yet you are conveniently located 10 minutes from a number of supermarkets. We had such a wonderful, relaxing time that the day after we returned to the UK we booked to return the following year! Would highly recommend.— 27th August - 3rd September 2011 Tina & James - Sittingbourne - Kent - UK
We've had a fantastic week despite the mixed weather. The gite was lovely, pool very much enjoyed by all and the views from the terrace are to die for !!— 20th - 27th August 2011 The Taylors from Basingstoke - UK
Favourite restaurant was 'La Source', food was delicious ! If you fancy something more English, try Buffalo Grill on the other side of Villeneuve sur lot. Enjoyed visiting the various Bastides, as they give you a real sense of French tradition.
Overall a very enjoyable holiday with some great memories :-)
This was our second visit to Valmar Gite and we are just as pleased this time, as we were the last. The view is amazing and we didn't forget to bring along our art equipment to do lots of painting and sketching of the Gite and landscape. We have had lots of fun visiting markets (Pujols, Monpazier and Sainte livrade-sur-lot). I would highly recommend the water lily garden as it is just a ten minute drive away and the water lily are beautiful and there are lots of frogs swimming around, so if you are lucky, you could get some very nice pictures. We named one of the frogs 'Freddy' and he was our favourite. The grapes on the grapevine at Valmar are delicious. Overall we had an amazing time and only the odd bug bite. Beautiful view, beautiful Gite, beautiful weather and beautiful holiday.— 23rd July - 6th August 2011 The James family - Essex - UK
Thank you again Martin and Christine for letting us stay in your lovely Gite
We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks at Valmar in September, what a beautiful spot Martin & Christine have picked for their home. The views and sunsets from the terrace are absolutely breathtaking, especially when we are so used to feeling somewhat enclosed in our own back garden we couldn't believe it! We were very lucky with the weather and had 10 days of sunshine and hot weather which meant we spent the majority of our time lazing by the pool and having BBQs in the evening. On the rainy days we visited the local towns and went wine tasting which was great fun. Thank you to you both for the excellent service from beginning to end, you made our holiday easy and fun right from the moment we made our first enquiry. I would hands down recommend this villa to anyone and will certainly pass on your details to anyone looking at holidaying in south-west France.— 11th - 25th September 2010 - The Harper family - Banstead - UK
We enjoyed our holiday at Valmar Gite.— 14th - 21st August 2010 - Donna & Glenn - Surrey - UK
The location was superb, beautiful views.
I would recommend this property to able bodied people because of the steps down to the pool.
The area is lovely.
Restaurant La Source was excellent.
Would definitely go back.
This was our third visit to this fantastic gite and will not be our last.very well equipped accommodation with one of the best views in the area.— 1st - 14th August 2010 - Mick & Caroline - Nottingham - UK
when you return from a long day sight seeing in this unspoilt region, you can relax by the pool and watch the beautifull sunset while sipping a large glass of local wine.
you must visit the local night markets, great entertainment and a relaxed atmosphere. The meat man who appears at all the markets we visisted is a must try for the steak lovers,he will cook the steak to your liking.
a great base for relaxation and visiting the sur-lot region.
once again martin & christine a 'BIG' Thankyou for letting us enjoy your piece of France. mick & caroline Nottingham
A great two weeks with variable weather, hot, then cold, then cloudy, then hot again. Enjoyed the Sunday market at Pujols - great for people watching, with a coffee. Visited Monflanquin & Monpazier, where we had a good value meal at the ‘Bastide‘ restaurant. Also good value canoeing at Casseneuil, but wear shorts and flipflops and be prepared to drag your canoe over the small weirs. Remember to check the pool at Valmar for frogs (the kids loved this !) and other wildlife, including a small praying mantis— 16th - 31st July 2010 - Keith, Louise, Rebecca and Chloe - Chelmsford - Essex - UK
Superb week at Valmar Gite, with great weather, 25-37degs. Mesmerised by fantastic view across the valley. Great base for mountain biking. Loads of well marked routes around Dolmayrac & beyond. Best days out - Monpazier, Monflanquin and Chateau de Byron. Returning to the UK relaxed and stress-free, with the intention of booking again next year. (They did !)— 3rd - 16th July 2010 - Deb & Malcolm - Wantage - Oxon - UK
Our second Holiday in the Lot and the area is still as peaceful and unspoilt as we remembered. Weather has however been mixed to say the least, with daytime temperatures from 16 - 32. Finally got in pool on Tuesday of 2nd week. As everyone else has said before us, the Gite is 1st class, in a wonderful setting. We have visited most places recommended by previous visitors and particularly enjoyed the visit to ‘Latour Marliac’ water Lilly garden at Le Temple -sur-Lot, with a very enjoyable lunch at La Commanderie restaurant. (However dinner was not as good a couple of days later !). Our best lunch was at Margulan at Agen (52 Rue Richard couer de lion, where we had a quite brilliant meal. Very Fine dining indeed. The market at Sainte Livrade-sur-lot on Friday morning, is also very good— 12th - 26th June 2010 - John & Irene - Biggleswade - Beds - UK
A lovely Gite in a fantastic setting. We‘ve had a great time, despite being unlucky with the weather. Would really recommend the water Lilly garden - ‘Latour Marliac’ at Le Temple-sur-lot for anyone who enjoys beautiful gardens, flowers and frogs. Enjoyed beautiful views from ‘La Source’ restaurant, but vegetarians beware - no options. Great food otherwise, at a good price. The views from Pujols are certainly worth a visit. Thanks for a lovely Holiday in an enviably nice Gite. Best wishes— 5th - 12th June 2010 - Laura & Ben - Edinburgh - UK
We have had a very enjoyable week at Valmar Gite and have been very lucky with the weather. The swimming pool was great for cooling off after trips out. We have stayed in the area before, but visited the medieval castle at Penne d‘ Agenais and the caves at Lastournelle for the first time. Also made a return visit to ‘La source’ restaurant— 5th - 12th September 2009 - Ted & Maureen - West Sussex - UK
Had a lovely stay at Valmar Gite, great weather most of the time. Very peaceful - great views. We recommend the watersports at ‘Nautilus’ at Castel Moron-sur-lot. The market at Pujols was very enjoyable and the ‘Auchan’ supermarket had everything you could possibly want. Thanks for a great Holiday— 22nd - 29th August 2009 - The Webb family - Kenilworth - Warwickshire - UK
We have all enjoyed a lovely and relaxing week at Valmar Gite. We have found the Gite to be very well equipped and a perfect base for the week. We've visited Pujols, Laparade, Monflanquin, where we came upon a fantastic Medieval Fayre. The views from the Terrace are stunning and we have found it hard to leave the pool, especially as temperatures have been 38 degs+ Many thanks for a great Holiday— 15th August - 22nd August 2009 - The Jefferis family - Worcestershire - UK
Extremely comfortable and well equipped. We have been very glad of the pool and the BBQ on days when the temperature has topped 37 degrees (98 fahrenheit). We have loved the terrace and the luxury of listening to Wimbledon on the TV whilst sipping our Rosé. A lovely spot and we're leaving very relaxed and very brown. Highlights for us were Chateau Biron and the Dunes at Arcachon— 27th June - 4th July 2009 - Daniel and Ruth Male - Newbury - Berks - UK
This was our first visit to France and it sure won't be our last. The gite was a 'Home from Home', very comfortable, we had everything we needed. The views are stunning from the terrace, the prettiest place we've ever stayed in. I'm sure we will be back soon— 20th June - 27th June 2009 - Gail and Harry Muench - Notts - UK
The weather has been brilliant and the views from Valmar stunning, even during the massive storm that seemed to close the valley. The pool is lovely and a welcome respite from the hot sun, whilst the house is comfortable. In fact several mornings we were surprised by the lateness of the hour that we woke up, even the cockerels along the valley seemed to be in competition. Thanks for a lovely holiday— 30th May - 13th June 2009 - Vic and Jane Rust - Kent - UK
What a spectacular view from the terrace - immediately set the pace of the holiday, slow and quiet. Weather has been exceptional- kids have had great fun using the pool every day. Have really enjoyed visiting all the vineyards, not sure if we'll have enough space in the car for all the wine. Valmar itself has been a great place to stay, rustic but comfortable. Neighbours on both sides delightful and we were kept in cherries, which were delicious. Thanks to you both for a lovely week.— 23rd - 30th May 2009 - The O' Dwyer family - Oxfordshire - UK
You cannot put into words just how beautiful the location of this Gite is. It has everything you need to make your stay very comfortable and relaxing. When you sit by the pool you feel like you're in paradise. Local shops are only 5 minutes away and stock everything you need. This was our second visit to Valmar and it won't be our last ! Many thanks Martin & Christine— 2nd - 16th August 2008 - Caroline and Mick Russell - Wilford - Notts - UK
We have stayed in dozens of gites, farmhouses, chateaux, cabins and tents all over France and can honestly say that this compares with the best. The house location is excellently placed to take in the breath-taking views and yet it's handy to large supermarkets and towns. I defy anyone not to gasp when they arrive and wonder if they have indeed landed in heaven! Inside the property does not let you down. The rooms are beautifully furnished and clean and much thought has been taken to ensure you have a wonderful stay. I am truly envious of Martin and Christine for having this place.— 12th - 19th July 2008 - The Beattie family - Befast N. Ireland
My family and I spent a memorable week here visiting quaint little villages and just lounging around the magnificent pool. We''ll treasure the photos forever
If you ever want to experience a little slice of heaven, this is it ! A beautifully built and well-equipped gite, in the most stunning of locations, with views to die for from every angle, including the pool. Excellent location for sightseeing around this beautiful area of South West France, or for just complete relaxation in peace and quiet at the gite and pool. Lots of activities for all to do. Fantastic horse-riding hacks with Pascale at Pailloles (25 minute drive from the gite), through woods and the lake, and very cheap. Fun boating activities for all ages at Castelmoron-sur-Lot, also cheap. Great night market overlooking the Lot Valley at Laparade, on Tuesday evenings - different stalls selling hot and cold food to make up your own picnic. Live music and fantastic french atmosphere.— 7th - 12th July 2008 - The Gillman-Wells family - Basingstoke - Hampshire - UK
Very good customer service all round, both before and after visit. Travelling to gite from Southampton couldn't have been easier. Would definitely return to this wonderful place
Gite comfortable, area pretty. Weather hot & sunny and sunsets to die for. All in all a pretty relaxing fortnight. An area not visited by us before on our many trips to France but we were well impressed.— 14th - 28th June 2008 - Nigel & Kay Garnett - Carnforth - Lancashire - UK
Monpazier was our favourite place, beautiful and unspoilt. Sarlat was certainly worth a return visit (after 22 years) and the scenery along the Dordogne remains beautiful. We also loved the water lily garden in Le Temple-sur-Lot.
A place that fulfilled all our holiday needs - Thank You
Valmar gite is a beautiful house in a lovely peaceful rural location in the Lot et Garonne. The property is luxurious, clean, comfortable, furnished and equipped to a very high standard with everything you could want. The views over the surrounding countryside really are stunning. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday, great for unwinding. Also, well located for sightseeing— 7th - 14th June 2008 - Dave & Sue Thomas - Caerphilly - Wales- UK
A truly delightful property with stunning views, Valmar Gite is in the perfect location for exploring the local area, or for a relaxing break where you don't venture much further from the pool. Martin and Christine were incredibly helpful during the booking process, the house is stylish and thoughtfully equipped and I would definitely return— 24th - 31st May 2008 - Clare Cotton - Canterbury - UK
No matter how many pictures you take of this stunning property and beautiful views, they can never justify just how truly spectacular they really are. It's the perfect location for a relaxing "chilled out" week or equally as good for exploring this lovely region of France! We will be returning in the near future without doubt. Many thanks to Martin and Christine for a wonderful holiday in every way— 2nd - 9th September 2007 - Stef and Rachel - Mansfield - Notts - UK
We have had a great holiday here at Valmar - the location is superb with breathtaking sunsets. Both our boys have spent hours in the pool which has been very enjoyable. We'd recommend a visit to the Bastide towns of Monpazier and Monflanquin, both of which are really quaint. Agen, Bergerac and Arcachon are all worth a visit too. We visited the chateau de Bonaguil and the Chateau de Byron, which are also well worth the drive. All in all a great holiday and a great Gite— 11th - 25th August 2007 - The Lewis family - Leigh-On-Sea - Essex - UK
We had a beautiful, peaceful stay here. We have particularly enjoyed canoeing on the River Lot at Cassenuil and Villeneuve. It is very calm, with only a gentle current and felt safe for us and our two young children. We had fabulous meals at Lou Calel and Le Toque blanche, in Pujols. Lovely peaceful villa with superb views over the valley, convenient access to three supermarkets and the local town of Sainte Livrade-sur-lot and convenient for the river Lot. Kids loved the pool. Very considerate and thoughtful English owners. Two weeks wasn't enough— 21st July - 4th August 2007 - The Raca family - Edgbaston - Bimingham - UK
Valmar Gite was a great base for touring around the South West of France. Locally we enjoyed the Saturday morning market at Villenueve-sur-Lot, lunch at Monflanquin, walks around Essigeac and most of all the evening market at Pujols on Wednesdays (6-11.30pm). As you can imagine we weren't in the gite much, but when we were, it had everything that we needed. Locally we would also recommend the Lou Gaillot vineyard. The tour only takes 20 minutes and the wine is reasonably priced. The Chateau de Bonaguil is also worth a visit, bring a picnic ! Thanks for the memories Valmar Gite and good luck Martin and Christine— 7th - 21st July 2007 - The Duffy family - Lisburn - Northern Ireland
A truly wonderful property in such a peaceful location, enabled us to enjoy a tranquil holiday. Many thanks Martin and Christine. The panoramic restaurant in Pujols is a connoisseurs delight, great food, great views, not cheap but worth every penny ! We'll tell our friends. We would love to come again— 16th - 23rd June 2007 - Peter and Stephanie Withers - Bristol - UK
